Conifers on the up ahead of promotional week

Kilworth Conifers' owner Derek Spicer said he has never had a busier summer supplying his product.

This year’s National Conifer Week takes place from 30 September – 7 October 2017, encouraging garden centres around the country to embrace the beauty of conifers, and highlight them using eye-catching displays, to demonstrate the variety and choice of conifers available.

Spicer said younger customers had forgotten about bad publicity conifers got years ago because of sitka spruce plantations that cover huge areas of UK Forestry Commission land and leylandii high hedges, which have caused neighbour disputes because they block light.

He said newer, more colourful and compact conifers were leading sales.
