London Assembly Environment Committee to examine Draft Environmental Strategy

The London Assembly Environment Committee will tomorrow hold the first of two meetings examining all topics in the London Mayor's Draft Environment Strategy.

The Draft Environment Strategy was published in August and is out for public consultation until 17 November. In it London Mayor Sadiq Khan says he wants to make the capital the greenest city in the world with the cleanest air of any major world city, making more than 50% of its footprint green with with 10% more tree canopy by 2050.

Deputy Mayor for the environment Shirley Rodrigues, GLA assistant director, environment Patrick Feehily and other GLA officers will be quizzed by the committee on the Mayor's carbon reduction ambition and timescales; energy efficiency; energy generation; transport carbon emissions; waste and the transition to a low carbon circular economy.

Retrofitting existing homes for energy efficiency will also be a topic for discussion. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 10am in the Chamber at City Hall and can also be viewed via webcast.
